The cabinet maker
From treadle to comfort and style
Horn Furniture originated in Germany around 80 years ago and the continuous growth in popularity of this fine furniture is due to the tradition of high quality established in those early days.
In the twenty-first century that tradition of high quality is maintained and Horn now leads the world in sewing machine furniture with operations in Europe, Australia and the U.S.A.
In the 1860s sewing machines were operated by treadle and set into a table with the metal bed level with the top.
About a hundred years later the "free arm" or "sleeve arm" sewing machine started to become popular as sleeves, cuffs and other tubular items were so much easier to sew with the new designs.
Horn of course kept pace with developments and anticipated the the need for an effortless way to use the sewing machine in flatbed or freearm mode.
The result was the airlift mechanism which at a gentle press on the top of the machine raises it to a choice of either the flatbed or normal sewing postion without lifting or "swinging" the machine into position.
Development is continuous.
Horn has swiftly responded to the latest generation of bigger, heavier long arm machines by offering 5 models which have been fitted with a new longer Horn "soft touch" air lifter. This suits these newer machines and all existing standard sized machines.
